VPN services may be banned in Ukraine

Sergey Demedyuk, head of Ukraine's cyber police department, said that the special services are studying the possibility of banning VPN services and anonymizers in the country.

«I would identify specific VPN servers that can be used. They need to undergo some kind of certification or inspection. There are many secure VPN servers that do not retain information. Therefore, it is necessary to determine which companies may operate and which may not», – quotes Demedyuk as saying, “Obozrevatel”.

The head of Ukraine's cyber police also admitted that he envied how quickly the law banning VPN services in Russia had been adopted.

Vasyl Hrytsak, head of the Security Service of Ukraine, said that the SBU was tracking possible ways to circumvent the blocking of Russian social networks, which are banned in Ukraine.

«Three months have passed. I believe that the right decision was made regarding closing access to these social networks. But Russians or representatives of those same networks disseminated information about how these measures could be bypassed and how to use these networks. We are tracking these things. And whatever appears, these “loopholes”, we try to close. We are not trying to—we are closing them», — emphasized Mr. Hrytsak in an interview with 112.ua.
